The book...That's very likely the case, I'm afraid. The book has far more credibility as a novel than it would as a "serious, non-fiction" offering. For you see, in this case, "it's only a novel, so why are those stupid _____'s getting so upset about it?," "they must have something to hide." It's an impossible thought that somebody could care about fiction, or, in this case, truth presented as fiction presented as truth, which is a weirdness only possible in a post-modern age.<BR/><BR/>And of course, the novel format gives her the most impregnable post-modern cloak of all: "Maybe it's not entirely true, but it's neat to think about." This is the cure for any and all cognitive dissonance.
