On March 15 and 16, 1954, Edmund Wilson called on Max Beerbohm in Beerbohm's villa at Rapallo. Wilson found that Chesterton remained a favorite subject for the great caricaturist, mentioning in particular a mural of Chesterton that had been painted at the entrance hall, and the title page of a volume of Chesterton's essays covered with "an expanding caricature" in which the printed words "Thirteenth Edition" were displayed in Chesterton's open mouth.
