May is Mary's month, and I
Muse at that and wonder why:
Her feasts follow reason,
Dated due to season-

Candlemas, Lady Day;
But the Lady Month, May,
Why fasten that upon her,
With a feasting in her honour?

Is it only its being brighter
Than the most are must delight her?
Is it opportunest
And flowers finds soonest?

Ask of her, the mighty mother:
Her reply puts this other
Question: What is Spring?-
Growth in every thing-

Flesh and fleece, fur and feather,
Grass and greenworld all together;
Star-eyed strawberry-breasted
Throstle above her nested

Cluster of bugle blue eggs thin
Forms and warms the life within;
And bird and blossom swell
In sod or sheath or shell.

All things rising, all things sizing
Mary sees, sympathising
With that world of good,
Nature's motherhood.

Their magnifying of each its kind
With delight calls to mind
How she did in her stored
Magnify the Lord.

Well but there was more than this:
Spring's universal bliss
Much, had much to say
To offering Mary May.

When drop-of-blood-and-foam-dapple
Bloom lights the orchard-apple
And thicket and thorp are merry
With silver-surfed cherry

And azuring-over greybell makes
Wood banks and brakes wash wet like lakes
And magic cuckoocall
Caps, clears, and clinches all-

This ecstasy all through mothering earth
Tells Mary her mirth till Christ's birth
To remember and exultation
In God who was her salvation.

One of the up sides of the current resident’s hostile distain of the Catholic church is that the bishops have grown a pair. 

They are seeing the folly of 'go along to get along'. They have remembered that you cannot compromise with the devil.  So finally they are saying "no" to those Catholics who think it is ok to slice and dice babies from speaking at Catholic Schools. One such case is that Rep Bob Hagan has been uninvited to speak because of his pro child murder stance. The thing is that Hagan just can't understand it he said, “I have fought for social justice my entire life and today, I am one disappointed Catholic. After being invited to give the commencement speech at Mercy Nursing School here in Youngstown, I got a call telling me that the Bishop has overruled their invite and they have rescinded the invitation because of some of the political positions I have taken. I am saddened that the work that I have done to feed the poor, clothe the naked, help cure the sick, and to bring an end to the death penalty has fallen on deaf ears.”

So for him he believes that these goods outweigh the evil of his support of the wholesale slaughter of children which he calls a political position. He is not alone.

Interesting that we would vote for someone who does these goods but actively maintains the okedness of the slicing and dicing of babies for the health of the mother but we would never vote for someone who said it would be ok to slap your wife occasionally for the health of the marriage.

I pray for Rep Hagan that he may gain sight and I continue to pray for the bishops that they stay strong.

Is it too soon to say hurrah?

Although one might think boycotts work and that Pepsi has seen the light but I can not help remembering the Susan G. Komen fiasco. Then again Pepsi has the bottom line to guide its moral decisions.

Strange (wink. wink) that there was never any mention of this guy in the movie.

Adrian Smith, a Christian, was found guilty of gross misconduct by his publicly funded housing association for saying that allowing gay weddings in churches was ‘an equality too far’.

He posted the comment in his own time, on his personal page on the Facebook website, which could not be read by the general public.

OH WHAT A TANGLED WEB WE WEAVE

You may remember this case where the parents decided that the birth of their child was a horrible mistake and somebody had to pay. Well someone did.

Now coming before the supreme court is an interesting case where a woman went through in vitro and conceived a child after the father had died .

She now wants Social Security survivor's benefits. Now if the Court finds in her favor (and there is no reason to think they won’t), what about all those other children that entered the world through artificial means? One strong donor has conceived 100 plus children through this oh so romantic method.

If the court does rule in favor of this women when that donor dies will all those children be receiving SS checks?

I am so glad that redefining marriage and family has no ill effect on society.

AN EXCELLENT HOMILY

Robert R. Reilly presents a well crafted, logical and well reasoned argument with 'A Weimar moment for America'. It is precisely because of that this article will be ignored at best, illicit death threats at worst. Every knows that quoting Aristotle, (“Men start revolutionary changes for reasons connected with their private lives.” ) and Plato in the same essay will be immediately dismissed as hopelessly out of touch.

It is almost as bad as quoting Chesterton.

From the 'sin makes you stupid' dept. I heard Soraya Chemaly on the radio the other day talking about her article titled "I'm No Longer a Catholic. Why Are You?" It was so utterly inane I started yelling at the radio. The only way anyone could be as wrong as her on so many points would be that she has spent NO time studying and less time thinking.

She honesty believes this:

And in keeping with the 'Keep your rosaries off my ovaries.' song book they now have "I will start paying more attention to the bishops' position on birth control on the day a Catholic bishop becomes pregnant." not as catchy but they are working on it.

Maryland Gov. signs bill making same sex marriage okaydoky.

"Religious freedom is the very reason for our state's founding, and at the heart of religious freedom is the freedom of individual conscience," said Gov. O'Mally.

The Governor's statement changes everything. He has now equated same sex marriage with the practice of religious freedom. I am not sure if he is referring to Spreadleggyism or Itsallaboutmeism but i am sure that now

Individual conscience is a good thing when choosing evil but a bad thing when choosing good. Oh how gay it all is!

"A Georgetown co-ed told Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s hearing that the women in her law school program are having so much sex that they’re going broke, so you and I should pay for their birth control."

"Forty percent of the female students at Georgetown Law reported to us that they struggled financially as a result of this policy (Georgetown student insurance not covering contraception), Fluke reported.

It costs a female student $3,000 to have protected sex over the course of her three-year stint in law school, according to her calculations.

I think most of us could easily do 30 minutes of stand-up on this but i have a few questions.

First being, how did Pelosi find this women, what kind of surveys were used to find going broke, sex crazed law students? They probably got the tip from Bill Clinton who graduated from Georgetown.

The second question is what kind of contraception is she using? The pill costs from $15.00 to $50.00 a month so that is at maximum $600.00 a year. If she is using condoms at $1.00 each she would have to have sex 5 times a day (more on weekends) to equal $1000.00 a year.

When does she have time go to class?

When you listen to her you get the feeling that the the lack of coverage for contraception is the new black plague that is sweeping the country.

The fifth grader I am tutoring is reading, Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher by Bruce Coville.

The dedication reads:

A letter from Archbishop Schnurr: response to Obama’s mandate ‘accommodation’

February 13, 2012

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Despite the so-called “accommodation” announced by President Obama on Friday, the mandates from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services regarding insurance coverage for abortion-inducing drugs, sterilization, and contraception still do not adequately and clearly protect the freedom of conscience of employers and their employees.

Although the announcement claims now to exempt religious employers by placing the onus of coverage for these services on insurers, many of the details remain unsettlingly murky. For instance, many religious organizations – including the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and its agencies – are self-insured, which apparently means that they would still have to pay for services they find immoral. (emphasis added) Secondly, it is unclear how insurers can be forced to cover these services for “free” while not passing on the cost to the insured. This could still violate the conscience rights of many employees who do not want to be forced to provide objectionable services for others, such as through their premium payments.

The Catholic Church, along with many other religious leaders, is reiterating its firm position that the freedom to follow one’s conscience and to have access to health care are both fundamental human rights. We will not be forced into a position of choosing between the two. We are open to conversation and dialogue with the Administration to find solutions. However, one course of action which would provide a permanent resolution would be the passage of the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act (HR 1179 and S 1467). We renew our call for people of faith to stand up for religious liberty and urge Congress to pass this comprehensive legislation.

Notre Dame finally sees the Long Con

When Obama received his honorary degree at Notre Dame's May 17, 2009, commencement, he vowed to respect the conscience rights of those who believe abortion is wrong.

“Let's honor the conscience of those who disagree with abortion, and draft a sensible conscience clause, and make sure that all of our health care policies are grounded not only in sound science, but also in clear ethics, as well as respect for the equality of women,” said Obama. “Those are things we can do.”

Oh How they loved him then. "See," they said, "he ain't so bad."

In responce to his recent power play the faculty now says: “This is a grave violation of religious freedom and cannot stand. It is an insult to the intelligence of Catholics, Protestants, Eastern Orthodox Christians, Jews, Muslims, and other people of faith and conscience to imagine that they will accept an assault on their religious liberty if only it is covered up by a cheap accounting trick.”

Why They Hate Us So.

The Current Resident seems to have backed down on his insistance that Catholic groups provide contraception and abortion service free of charge in their health insurance. He is now saying that the insurance companies will have to pay for it. So if a Church provides insurance to its employees in a policy from X company than X company HAS TO provide this coverage. He still gets what he wants.

Obama's new plan is analogous to having a father take $50 out of his wallet and put it in his wife's purse to pay for their son to attend a rap concert he doesn't want junior to attend.

NOW HERE THIS: The current resident has no Constitutional authority to mandate that Churches do anything! So now he looks like he is respectful of the Churches concerns with this compromise BUT he has no constitutional authority to mandate that insurance companies provide a service at a price he dictates.

As many hail this compromise we lose sight of the fact that he is acting outside the powers of the president and that day by day we lose bits of our freedoms. Which is what he wants any way. As my football coach used to say. "By the yard its hard. By the inch its a cinch."

Please understand if he gets away with overstepping in this there is no reason he can't over step where ever he wants when ever he wants.

It looks like he is retreating from his attack on the Catholic Church but he will be back because as Father Barron stated the great enemy to liberal totalitarians is the Catholic Church.
